On November 26th, 2009, the new Reval Hotel Sonya was presented to public. The special feature of the hotel is its unusual design inspired by ”Crime & Punishment” by Fyodor Dostoevsky. The leading theme of this great famous novel “Transformation” became the main leading theme of the interior decoration.

The 173 familiar Reval Hotels’ room types — Standard, Reval, Executive, and Suite — have been given a new concept in this hotel. The guest rooms are divided into four categories ”Conscience”, ”Grace”, ”Rebirth” and ”Ego”. As ”Conscience” represents the standard room level, the ”Ego” suite has been inspired by Raskolnikov’s wish to become ”a Napoleon” who exists at his own superior level. Furthermore, every guest room has its own unique door sign with a certain sentence from a specific part of ”Crime & Punishment” in Russian and English— prompting guests to spend just a little time in contemplation of the message of a Russian literary classic.

On the first floor of the hotel, the stylish restaurant and bar “Metamorfos” invites guests to experience Russian and European cuisine. The menu is created in a book format — its prologue, chapters and epilogue, present dishes with fascinating stories. Studying the menu will inform diners about the 19th century, the era of Dostoevsky, and of Rodion Raskolnikov’s St.Petersburg. Guests will discover much about Dostoevsky’s travels to Europe, and also about the development of his mind and the inner transformation of his soul. The regeneration of the soul is expressed in everything: from the variety of materials used, in the formation of the interior, the creative embodiment of recipes from modern Russian cuisine, to the surprising combinations of ingredients and flavors.

Furniture, colors, patterns, art and objects of the hotel have been chosen carefully to enhance the Russian atmosphere and to generate a more inspiring, lively and creative ambience.
