A new exhibition titled «Vologda in the Medieval Mirror» has opened in the Irenevsky section of the Vologda Kremlin, containing newly uncovered artifacts found by archeologists in the years 2008 – 2009 on the Volgograd Kremlin territory. Ancient jewelry, weapons, work tools, and domestic objects made out of wood, leather, and metal have spent 500 years beneath the ground and date to the time of rule of Ivan the Terrible.

Some of the more unique artifacts include children toys, natal crosses and women’s gold jewelry. These finds are the first of their kind within the city’s territory. Furthermore, evidence of construction during the rule of Ivan the Terrible was also discovered, along with 17th and 18th century architecture.

The set up of the exhibition allows the public to experience the everyday life of the medieval family, and is composed of several sections: domestic objects from the Vologda townsman, various handicrafts, examples of traditional female and male craftwork and children’s world, which includes toys and clothing. Additionally, the exhibition includes photographs documentation the excavation process of the objects displayed.
