The city of Saint Petersburg has created a “Saint Petersburg Tourist Card”. This card will serve as a unified payment pass for excursion transportation, museums, hotel discount programs, and other cultural and commercial centers. This program is scheduled to start in March 2011. The “Tourist card” of St. Petersburg includes visiting of two excursions round the city (excursion “City tour”, excursion down the rivers and channel “North Venice”), and also a free of charge entry without queue to 9 State Museums( like The Petropavlovskaya Fortress, The Isaakievskyi Cathedral, The Russian Museum, The Spas na Krovi Cathedral etc.). The “Saint Petersburg Tourist Card” is similar to the successful tourist cards available in London, Paris, Berlin and Stockholm. Saint Petersburg is the first city in Russia to initiate such a project and is promising to improve the image of the city as tourist center, increase the comfort level of tourists from Russia and abroad, as well as adhering Saint Petersburg into the European tourist system’s standards.
