Lenin's Mausoleum in Moscow was closed to the public on February 16 for two months due to planned work, reported in the Center of Public Relations of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSS). Usually, Lenin's Mausoleum is opened five days a week from 10:00 to 13:00. The mausoleum is closed for visiting during the holidays, mass public events and celebrations in Red Square. "According to the planned work during the period from February 16 to April 16, 2015 Lenin's Mausoleum is closed for visitor access," – FSS reported. During this period, specialists from Russian Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants will work with the embalmed body of Lenin. Biochemical work has been carried out on a regular basis since the opening of the mausoleum, and every few years they change Lenin’s clothes. The first temporary wooden Lenin's mausoleum was built and opened January 27, 1924 - less than a week after his death. Only close relatives and senior leaders of the Communist Party and the state had an access to it. Mass visiting of the leader‘s tomb began 1 August 1924 when the second mausoleum was erected after the project of Alexei Shchusev. The third stone mausoleum, existing now, was also designed by Shchusev - in October 1930. |
